Through the Viewfinder
A recent fad among photographers has been to use new digital cameras to shoot through the lenses or viewfinders of old cameras. I bought an old Kodak Duaflex to give it a try. It’s an awesome little camera, and I’m almost certain that it actually works, though I haven’t tried yet.                       I might post later about specifically how I take these pictures, but I...

A Rant on Dependence and Me Scaring Birds
I feel like a bum. That’s right folks, a bum. Why, you ask? Let me explain why. First of all, we’re all consumers. We collect lots of stuff. We go to big stores and buy things, use them up, throw them away, or at least throw packaging away. We eat, we spend, we discard, and we complain about it the whole time. We go through so much stuff in our lives. Where did all this stuff come from? The...

McClellanville Revisited
One of my favorite things to do is explore small towns, and I can’t get enough of McClellanville. I’m convinced that I’ll have to own a small house out there one day when I finally retire from rocking hard. Just fishing, reading, taking pictures, stuff like that. Life is slow out there. The light is soft and the air is fresh.

Whether or not you were ever a supporter of Obama, yesterday was definitely one for the books. It, like many other things lately, made me feel extremely lucky to have been born in this country. No better way to celebrate than with some Jon Stewart. Those writers down there can seriously make anything funny. This is classic.

King Street Panoramic
I took pictures of one of my favorite areas of downtown Charleston (King St. between Morris and Cannon, looking west) and pieced them together to make a panoramic. There are about 8 or 9 pictures in there. I used a wide angle lens, which made piecing it together more difficult because the edges distort. But it was the only option since I was already as far back as I could be on the sidewalk...

A few months back, I wrote about a new web site called Daytum where you can track your daily data. There are lots of reasons someone would want to collect this information about themselves, but for me it has mostly been about my interest in what I would find. Rita says I am a huge dork for doing this (and I don’t disagree) but I have decided to track several aspects of my daily routine in...

Such is Life
A master bedroom I shot on Monday.      And MY luxurious master bedroom: And of course, a side by side comparison of the master baths (I won’t tell you whose is whose):      OK I’ll admit it, mine is the one without the giant pillars. But I honestly don’t know where I would be happier. Mo money mo problems, my friends. But then, no money mo problems. So perhaps just...

When I was maybe 10 or 11, I decided one day that I wanted to be a snowboarder. I had skied a decent amount with my family but snowboarding was a new challenge I wanted to face. I would see the older kids flying down the mountain and I wanted to be them. So I told my dad that next time we went skiing I would be renting a snowboard instead of skis. When we got there, I almost chickened out and got...

After getting kicked a few good times by Amazon MP3 in 2008, it looks like iTunes is finally making their music DRM free. I think the damage has been done though. Although iTunes is still by far the biggest music seller in the world, Amazon has proven that they aren’t invincible. It kind of reminds me of Mac vs. PC, except Mac is now on the wrong side.

WatchWatch
Most of you probably don’t know that I was really into skateboarding from 7th to 9th grade. I loved it so much. By 10th grade my friends were changing and I had no money so it was something I drifted away from. Skateboarding tends to get a bad rap for a lot of reasons but the sport itself should be respected for the amount of balance, agility, and practice it takes to have serious talent....

Last night was another beautiful foggy night in Charleston. Nights like this have been rare since I’ve lived here, but lately it’s been a little more common. There are few things I love more than exploring in the fog with my camera and tripod, and last night was made better because I was actually with friends instead of being alone. Pictures like this always come out better on a...

Dorks go out for New Year’s Eve. Cool people stay in and take pictures! I hope everyone had a fun and safe night. I have many resolutions for 2009. A few are to sell more things this year and to continue to try my best to hone certain skills. Also, read more and eat lots of vegetables.
