How You Survived the War - The Weepies

from their new CD, Hideaway

I’m not ashamed to like The Weepies. In fact, I’m proud to. They are great songwriters and deserve to be famous. I think it’s genius that they often choose delayed clean electric guitar parts over using the more normal acoustic guitar choice. I think the producer is probably to thank for that, and if I had big bucks to record a CD I would probably choose The Weepies’ producer. Their CDs are those kind that deserved to be listened to in headphones. You can’t get the full effect if you can’t hear all the rich layers. They manage to consistently use 3 or 4 part harmonies without making it sound too over the top. They even use thin harmonies in the verses, and the sound is so tight that it’s hard to even notice unless you listen for it.
