Pinback - “Devil You Know” from Autumn of the Seraphs
I have loved Pinback since 2005 when my friend Leslie told me to download “Penelope”. I finally got around to buying their latest CD and I’m not disappointed. “Blue Screen Life” is still my favorite album of theirs, but they did a good job with this one too.
One of the reasons I like Pinback so much is because they were able to develop a niche style of sound in their vocals AND guitar work. Bands are lucky to only have one original recognizable trait. The vocals work with the guitar and bass to make complex separate rhythms that don’t fight each other. Basically they are the kings of catchy riffs.
