I’m always on the lookout for good design and photography. It broadens my knowledge and improves my own skills. Jazz album cover design caught my attention a long time ago and has since become an obsession of mine. The classic fonts, use of negative space, and color combinations are timeless. They choose pictures that perfectly capture the mood they are going for, then make duotones of them. Blue, red, and yellow were the most common. I could look at them all day, they are amazing. Here are a very few of my favorites. I think a lot of fads in today’s “classy” looking graphic design are the result of evolution from jazz album covers. One of these days I’m going to make a big collage of jazz covers, put it in a nice frame, and hang it in my bonus room right next to my guitar. Then I’ll invite you over and we can hang out in there, listening to good music and playing pool.
