A few months back, I wrote about a new web site called Daytum where you can track your daily data. There are lots of reasons someone would want to collect this information about themselves, but for me it has mostly been about my interest in what I would find. Rita says I am a huge dork for doing this (and I don’t disagree) but I have decided to track several aspects of my daily routine in 2009. I am half a month in and I’m already a bit surprised by the results.

First and most importantly, I am tracking all of my beverage intake for 2009. This is the most difficult because it requires the most updating. The reason I want to track this is because I’ve been a bit concerned about drinking too much caffeine and not enough water. What’s been most surprising so far though is how much beer I’ve drank without really thinking about it. If I wasn’t keeping track, I wouldn’t have guessed I’ve had that much. Which isn’t much to some people, but to me it is.

Secondly, I’m keeping track of my work week lunches. I’m watching my budget and lunch is where I’ve seen friends and coworkers blow a ton of money. I want to make sure the lunches I prepare and leftovers are much more frequent than fast food and sit down restaurant lunches. I’m doing decent so far, but I see this going downhill quick once work gets busier.

Mostly out of curiosity, I’m keeping track of a few other things too including when I go to bed, how many hours I will work this year, how many pictures I take, and how many songs I listen to. Sounds ridiculous, I know. But I’ll only update the picture and song stats occasionally, and it’s a very simple process to do with a few scripts I installed. And the work hours and bedtimes are something I only need to update once a day.

Daytum’s setup makes it extremely fast and simple to make updates and keep track of the data. I have it bookmarked so that when I fill up my water jug at work, I can add it to Daytum in 10 seconds and go back to surfing the internet. Just kidding boss.

Here’s the link to my page and below is a screenshot of my progress so far.
