Frugality
The small company I work for has a company car. It is a mid 90s GMC Jimmy and I take it on all the photo shoots I do. Let me tell you, it is one crappy car. The suspension is loose, the gas pedal sticks, the heat rarely works, it is all torn up and dirty inside, and it smells funny. But I loved driving it. That is, until I bought my new car a year ago. Now every time I drive the Jimmy, it’s not the same. I realize that it is indeed crappy like everyone at the office says. I didn’t realize it until I got used to something better.
I used to think the coffee I made myself at home was delicious until I had Starbucks a few times. Now I don’t enjoy my own coffee as much anymore.
I also used to think my computer I saved up for was awesome and fast, but that’s before I got my incredible work computer. Now it’s harder to go back home and work. My computer I was so proud of seems so small and slow, it’s kind of sad.
And I am perfectly content eating my thin little ham sandwich for lunch until someone in the office walks in with delicious smelling pizza.
I truly believe that there is nothing wrong with moving up to certain bigger and better things that we can afford. But I can feel my satisfaction with frugality slowly slipping away and I don’t like it.
